Reaffirmed strong support from Germany for the realization of the next step on the planned path to joining the EU – the making of the important decisions that we have before us, was emphasized at the meeting of the Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz last night within the framework of his participation in the Summit of Leaders of the Berlin Process, which is held in Tirana, Albania.
As announced by the government press service, at the meeting that took place after the end of yesterday’s working sessions of the Summit, which was also attended by the Vice Prime Minister for European Affairs, Bojan Maricic, the European perspective of North Macedonia and the current developments in the region were discussed, with the Prime Minister Kovacevski informed Chancellor Scholz about the political developments in the country related to the accession negotiations of North Macedonia with the European Union.
– From the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and from FR Germany, North Macedonia once again received strong encouragement and support for the realization of the next step on the planned path to joining the EU – making the important decisions that we have before us. The efforts of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia to continue the European integration process were welcomed and recognized as a positive step and progress in fulfilling the accession criteria. It is extremely important for North Macedonia to continue the European path and for the country to reach a consensus on strategic issues that are of interest to the citizens, the announcement states.
Prime Minister Kovacevski, it is pointed out, emphasized that we must not miss this unique chance that we have, and we should cast our vote for Europe. He emphasized that North Macedonia needs integration, not isolation, and that the vote in the parliament for the constitutional amendments is a vote for the European future of North Macedonia.
The interlocutors, it is stated further, agreed that the acceleration of the integration processes is in the interest of the political, security and economic stability of the entire region. Accession and ultimately membership in the EU mean economic and social development, social justice, supreme democracy, functional rule of law, as well as an overall improved standard of living.
Prime Minister Kovacevski expressed his gratitude for the principled support and commitment from Germany as one of our closest allies, both in the process of accession negotiations and through the Berlin process as a catalyst for regional cooperation, the aim of which is to connect the countries of the Western Balkans and the European Union and to help build mutual relations based on European values. The leaders also discussed the specific benefits of the Berlin process, through which the level of political cooperation will be continued, which for North Macedonia and the region represents a very significant element on the way to European integration.
Prime Minister Kovacevski and Chancellor Scholz also discussed the most important aspects of bilateral cooperation between Germany and North Macedonia. Germany remains one of the most committed partners and a country that provides enormous support to the countries of the Western Balkans for EU integration, the announcement states.
